Contemporary Oracle Bones (POLY-GLYPHS) reimagines the earliest forms of written communication—Oracle Bones and bamboo inscriptions—as a contemporary calligraphic practice. Before the invention of paper, ink, and brush, information was carved into material surfaces; this project extends that lineage through sculptural mark-making in modern media. The term POLY-GLYPH reflects both the multiplicity of lines and the hieroglyphic-like forms created through the carving process. Each work combines the informational and gestural traditions of calligraphy, translating digital language into physical form by tracing the pathways of words across a QWERTY keyboard. The gestural line, carved into polystyrene, transforms addition into subtraction, creating hybrid artefacts that fuse ancient technique with digital content and embodied gesture.
